When people think about storm damage, they usually picture trees and branches crashing down through a roof. While these situations certainly happen, there are other ways buildings can experience exposure to the elements.

The most common types of problems caused by storms include:

• Rain damage – Deterioration from rain is one of the most common causes of roof damage in Florida. Especially because rainstorms hit extremely heavily here, rather than drizzling down, the pelting downpour can quickly accumulate. Excess water will soak into shingles, causing them to trap moisture between the cracks and causing mold or algae.
  
  
• Wind damage – Unfortunately, huge gusts of wind, whether or not they’re accompanied by rain, are a common part of life in Florida. There is no way to avoid tornados and hurricanes, but fast repairs following a severe windstorm can prevent roofs from suffering additional harm. If any shingles, tiles, or siding have been torn off, these should be replaced immediately.
  
  
• Hail damage – This kind of damage can be hazardous to multiple parts of a house or business. Even if the stones are quite small, they are liable to damage flashing, crack windows, or puncture the waterproof underlayment.
